About Us
GDH Fire & Security Ltd was set up in 2019 by George Helsdown MIET. We are the sister company to Helsdown Electrical Contractors Ltd (also on Checkatrade), which has over 50 years of combined experience.
We started GDH Fire & Security as a separate business because more and more customers were asking us to carry out fire and security work as well as electrical work. Running the two companies side by side means we can look after most of our customers’ needs with one trusted team. We have created HELSDOWN SERVICES as the main contact for clients that incorporates both the limited companies Helsdown Electrical Contractors Ltd and GDH Fire and Security Ltd .
We work in homes, shops, offices and industrial buildings. Many of our customers from our other company have been with us for over 30 years , and we always aim to make every job simple and stress-free, so we are pleased to add these services with the same trust personnel to them .
We are a small team that works well together and takes pride in doing neat, safe and long-lasting work using good quality materials.

George Helsdown
Director / Qualified Supervisor
George Helsdown is the Director and Qualified Supervisor, having started the business at just 20 after qualifying early. He holds City & Guilds 2360 Parts 1 & 2, NVQ Level 3, and is qualified in Testing and Inspection. George is a member of the IET (MIET) and IFSM, with expertise in BS 7671, fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, and fire risk assessments.
Outside of work, George enjoys spending time with his family and children, going to the gym, and staying fit.
David Helsdown
Approved Electrician
David Helsdown began his career in the electrical contracting industry as an indentured apprentice in 1964, qualifying in 1969 and achieving Approved Electrician status in 1972. He has extensive experience across commercial, domestic, and industrial sectors, and successfully ran his own business from the mid-1980s until 2010.
Highly knowledgeable in IET regulations and a wide range of cable systems—including mineral installations for petrochemical work—David joined Helsdown Electrical Contractors Ltd in 2010. After transitioning to part-time work in 2023, he retired from fieldwork at 75, though he continues to support the business in an administrative role.
Outside of work, David enjoys gardening, history, following sports (especially his grandchildren’s), and spending time with his family, including helping care for his daughters’ dogs.
Rebecca James
Administration Assistant
20 years experience in an administrative and secretarial capacity in Local Government and private family run businesses.
Trained and qualified in Customer Service, Business Administration, Book Keeping & Accounts software. Value family time and enjoy taking care of my health & well being.
Thomas Chapman
Electrical Improver
I’m a hardworking and driven individual who takes pride in doing things properly and maintaining high standards in my work. I value discipline, reliability, and continuous improvement.
Outside of work, I’m passionate about sport and fitness, which helps me stay focused, motivated, and goal-oriented both personally and professionally.
Tyler Burke
Electrician & Fire Risk Assessor
I’m a qualified electrician and fire risk assessor with hands-on experience across domestic, commercial, and industrial. I have a strong background in first and second fix installations, CCTV, alarms and fire alarm installations.
I hold Level 2 and Level 3 NVQs in Electrical Installation and Maintenance, the 18th Edition (BS 7671), and a JIB Gold Card. I also hold a Fire Risk Assessor qualification at Intermediate Level (Building).
Outside of work, I enjoy running, gym training, and attending music events
